Allotment Size & Strawberries

I received a letter from Halton Borough Council and the size of the allotment is 145 square meters.  Bigger than we thought.

The strawberries that we planted 3 weeks ago are doing well.

The compost bins that we have ordered should be here by the weekend.

Jobs from last weekend:
Plant 200 onion sets! - Completed
Dig another bed over - Didn't bother lol
Sieve more soil - Didn't bother lol
Meet more neighbours - Completed

Jobs for the coming weekend:
Move the compost heap (if the bins arrive)
Digging over more beds
Manuring the beds

Sunday 24th November 2013

It was decided that we would only go down to the allotment to plant the onion sets this weekend. The onions were bought from Wyvale Garden Centre.
I planted 100 red and 100 white (brown?) onion sets with Sue and had a little tidy up of any rubbish that had blown in.

Progress Post

This is my first 'Progress Post'. Every time there is a noticeable change I will make one of these posts so I can go back and look at how much things have changed.

So here is the allotment as of 17th November 2013

Strawberries and a leaf mould cage

We've had quite a busy weekend on the allotment, we managed to fill the whole skip up with rubbish!

On Saturday I worked on the corner of the allotment where we plan on having our composter bins and our leaf mould cage with my better half Lynda. Lots of soil and rubbish was dumped there so we had to dig it all out to level the bed.
My sister Sue planted the rest of the strawberries while my Mum and Dad dug over a bed each.

The strawberries filled the rest of this bed so she had to put some in the smaller bed next to it (see below)

On Sunday Sue and I went and built our leaf mould cage and we sieved some of the soil we dug out to top up some of the other beds

Jobs for next week:
Plant 200 onion sets!
Dig another bed over
Sieve more soil
Meet more neighbours lol

Three Weeks In...

We made the decision to rip everything out of the plot and start afresh. All of the plot was strimmed and we composted what we could. The rest was piled together until the skip arrived.

After 3 weeks we have cleared the rubbish and set up a temporary compost heap (yours truly at the heap).

We have also planted 40 strawberry plants and Sue has ordered more to fill the bed from Garden Bargains

The Beginning.....

After nearly 3 years on the waiting list we were offered an allotment, by Halton Borough Council on the 25th October! My other half and myself went to view the plot and after speaking to my sister (who is our 3rd partner) we decided it was a perfect size for us.
The plot was very overgrown as you can see from the pictures.
